Aim sentence: This story should grow your certainty as to the kind of King Jesus is – treasure these things – ponder them – and praise God for this humble Saviour King, he is Christ the Lord!
An ordinary birth? (1 – 7)
The Son of God is born – the promised forever King – but it all seems so ordinary. Why?
The hidden hand of God is at work behind the scenes so that this baby is born in the city of the King in fulfillment of prophecy – but his birth already shows the type of King he will be.
An extraordinary Saviour (8 – 14)
The first to hear this momentous news are a group of shepherds. The angel tells them the Gospel – This baby is the Saviour, Christ the Lord. He is the one they have been waiting for. They will find him in an animal feeding trough. All quite extraordinary.
The right response (15 – 20)
They go to see if it’s true and find things just as they had been told and they spread the Word – Glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen. Mary’s response is key though – we are to follow her in treasuring these things and pondering them – and it should lead us to praise God for King Jesus our Saviour!
