Theme sentence: Opposition is a given for those who are doing God’s work. The question is, “How will you respond?”

Aim sentence: Prepare for opposition – Pray for strength – and keep at the work God has called you to do!

Here comes trouble (1 – 5)

If you are doing God’s work, at times, people will discourage you, frustrate you, and work against you. Expect trouble and prepare for trouble.

Flash forward (6 – 23)

This section is a flash forward to 50 years later when God’s people faced more opposition. This serves to show that opposition is a normal experience for those who are doing God’s work.

Troubled enough to stop

The passage ends on a sad note as God’s people didn’t stand up under the opposition and the work God had called them to do stopped.

This should be a great warning to us all – How will we respond in the face of opposition to the work God has called us to do?

Now what?

Prepare for opposition – Pray for strength – and keep at the work God has called you to do!
