Theme sentence: Pray for more Ezra’s who faithfully study the Bible – do the Bible – and teach the Bible.
Aim sentence: If we want to change the world we need to study, do and teach God’s Word.
Ezra: A man of the Word (1-10)
Ezra is introduced as a priest in Aaron’s line – He has set his heart on studying, doing and teaching God’s Word.
Ezra’s mission: Change the world with the Word (11-26)
God works through King Artaxerxes. Artaxerxes sends Ezra home with people and supplies to beautify the Temple, to teach God’s Law, and to appoint judges and magistrates. In short, Ezra is given the power to change the world of his day with God’s wisdom.
Ezra’s response: Praise God for working behind the scenes (27-28)
It is clear to Ezra that God’s hand was at work making all this possible and so God gets all the praise.
The church and the world need more people like Ezra – people who know God. We can only know God through the study of His Word. So if we want to change the world we need to study, do and teach God’s Word.
