Theme sentence: Matthew wants us to know that Jesus has risen indeed and there is no longer any need to be afraid.

Aim sentence: If the resurrection of Jesus is true then the only appropriate response is one of worship and witness.

More than expected.

The women get more than they expect as they visit Jesus’ tomb. Earthquake – Angel – Scared to death guards – Empty tomb.

God is at work and nothing can hide this fact.

He is not here; He has risen!

The angel tells the women the best news in the world – the news that would change everything forever – “He is not here; He is risen!”

And how should they respond to this news? “Go and tell!”

Do not be afraid!

The angel had said those Gospel words to them, “Do not be afraid.” And now they hear them from the Lord Jesus himself. And because he has risen there is absolutely nothing to be scared of.

They show the right response in their worship of Jesus, but Jesus tells them that their worship must lead to witness as they, “Go and tell!”

Now what? Worship and Witness

Without the resurrection there is no Christianity. If the resurrection is true it changes everything. It affirms that Jesus is God alone who is worthy of worship. And this truth is something we cannot keep to ourselves. We need to go and tell!
