Theme sentence: Nehemiah wanted God’s name to be exalted and God’s people to be protected. God’s people were being attacked from within so he swiftly dealt with the problem.

Aim sentence: God’s glory on earth is on display in God’s people. We need to work against any troubles that arise within God’s family for God’s glory sake.

Troubles within

The last chapter saw trouble coming from outside of Jerusalem. This chapter shows that there is trouble within God’s people – which is often more dangerous.

Fear God more than men

Nehemiah fears God more than men, and his love for God flows out into a love for his brothers. He is more concerned about the people than the project.

Blessed to be a blessing

In verses 14 – 19 we see Nehemiah using what God has blessed him with to be a blessing to others. He doesn’t only focus on the project of building the wall, but he also focuses on the people around him.

Nehemiah wanted God’s name to be exalted and God’s people to be protected.

Now what?

God’s glory on earth is on display in God’s people. We need to work against any troubles that arise within God’s family for God’s glory sake.
