Theme sentence: The reality of the coming judgement should cause us to joyfully live ready.
Aim sentence: Be alert to the fact that so many are not yet ready and be self-controlled enough to live ready, putting on faith, love and hope.
Jesus is coming (1–3)
Paul wants them to be sure that the day of the Lord will come both unexpectedly and unavoidably, but know for sure Jesus is coming.
Living Ready (4–8)
Although this is a frightening reality for those who are not ready, for those who are ready this is motivation to be alert and self-controlled as we live ready for that day.
Sure Salvation (9–11)
Christ died for our sins in the past to secure us in the present and to secure for us a glorious future – of this we can be sure. Encourage each other with these truths.
The reality of the coming judgement should cause us to joyfully live ready.
This should be seen in our alertness and self-control as we wait for our Lord Jesus Christ.
