Theme sentence: In Jesus, God is busy doing something new as He calls sinners to follow Him.

Aim sentence: As Jesus calls sinners to repentance respond appropriately and celebrate.

Luke has written “so that you may know the certainty of the things you have been taught” about Jesus. If our certainty about Jesus is growing, then as we see Jesus going to the outcasts and bringing them in, Luke wants us to respond appropriately.

God is busy doing something completely new in Jesus – respond appropriately.

An inappropriate calling (27–28)

Jesus inappropriately calls a traitor tax collector and Levi appropriately follows.

An inappropriate party (29–32)

Jesus inappropriately has a meal with tax collectors and sinners. But this is actually the most appropriate thing to do as the one with the cure for sin.

Some inappropriate stories (33–38)

Jesus urges His hearers to not respond inappropriately to the new thing that God is busy doing.

The old may be more familiar but it is not better. The best has arrived in Jesus.

Now what?

Don’t miss out on the new thing that God is doing in Jesus. As Jesus calls sinners to repentance respond appropriately and celebrate.
