Theme sentence: The temple was supremely to be a house of prayer. A place where human need would find divine grace.
Aim sentence: As God’s living temple we can approach God with confidence through Jesus in prayer.
The Building project (6:1–7:51)
The temple and the articles in it are described in great detail. It is glorious to behold and should give us a sense of how greatly Solomon wanted his great God to be rightly worshipped.
The House of prayer (8:1–66)
As the glory of the Lord filled His temple Solomon offers a prayer of praise, confession, petition and worship. Solomon is approaching God in awe and wonder as the only personal God who is near, who acts, and who keeps His promises.
As we see Solomon praying toward the Temple with confidence, we have more confidence because in Jesus God has come to dwell with us. God, by His Spirit, is now dwelling in us so we can approach Him in prayer with confidence.
