Theme sentence: Elijah’s weakness is exposed which causes him to depend on the Lord God.

Aim sentence: Although we are weak in and of ourselves, as we depend on the Lord God, we can trust in His power at work in us and through us.

Food from the sky (1 – 6)

Elijah’s weakness is exposed in a desolate land, and he is forced to depend on God for the provision of food. God miraculously provides with food from the sky.

Miraculous provision (7 – 16)

Elijah’s weakness is further exposed as God sends him into enemy territory. Again God provides in a miraculous way.

From death to life (17 – 24)

When death makes an unwelcome visit Elijah’s weakness is exposed again, and again God provides life from death in this desperate situation.

Now what?

Dependence, not strength, is God’s objective for us. And if dependence is the objective, then weakness is an advantage. In our weakness, we can fully depend on God’s strength and power to be at work in us and through us.
