Aim sentence: If we want to be a church who are effective we need to watch our doctrine closely and deal with any false teaching.

Why should I listen? (1–2)

This letter may be addressed to Timothy, but it is a message for the church of all time. It comes with high authority and it concerns salvation. So listen!

Stop the false teachers (3–7)

Healthy teaching leads to proper Christian behaviour, love and evangelism; false teaching leads to controversies, arrogance, abusiveness and strife – it must be stopped!

What’s the law for? (8–11)

The law highlights our need for salvation because we can’t live according to it and should drive us to the Gospel.

Now what?

If we want to be a church known for our faith and love – a church which makes God our saviour and Jesus our hope known – we need to watch our doctrine closely and deal with any false teaching.
