Paul now has some specific commands regarding pastors that will help God’s church to guard the Gospel well.
Honour your pastors (17 – 18)
Good pastors should be honoured both in terms of respect and in terms of pay.
Protect from false accusations (19)
Accusations against a pastor should not be taken lightly. Godly teachers need to be protected against false accusations and unfair criticism.
Rebuke when necessary (20 – 21)
When there is clear guilt it must dealt with publically for the good of the Gospel.
Recruit with caution (22 – 25)
Great care must be taken in ordaining men for ministry.
Pastors should have a genuine concern for the body of Christ, and the body ought to have a loving honour for its pastors so that together we can keep at the task of seeing sinners saved.
